Ocean Beach
40” x 40”, 2015
Oil, spray paint and varnish on canvas.
“Ocean Beach” is very special to me painting for me. It is painted from a memory when I lived in Los Angeles specifically Santa Monica, California. The quality of light is captured by using thin glazes of varnish to build up the surface. The materials used are mixed media and includes oil paint, varnish and spray paint. The transparent glazes are built up by sanding down each layer to create a fusion of color. I cut away and scratch at the pictorial surface revealing the layers that have come before and the history of the canvas.
Spring Landscape in Bloom
47” x 47”, 2015,
Oil and varnish on canvas.
Starting with a pencil sketch drawn outside in the plain air with the first-hand experience of the changing Landscape. This painting is very much about the quality of light. Using oil and varnish on canvas, I watch the winter palette change from shades of blue and grey to Springs's first blooms of yellow, greens and turquoise. Expressing a spirit and spontaneity demonstrated with energetic lines that overlap in a gestural movement. The yellow touches, highlight a vibrancy of new cycles and beginnings.
Landscape
My artwork represents a creative journey. I use painting as a means of experimentation, playing with the idea of landscapes and seascapes as inspiration. I look to the vast spaces as a starting point blurring the boundaries of evocative dreams and distant memories.

Jungle
47” x 47”, 2015
Oil, encaustic and varnish on canvas.
Jungle is a playful mixed media encaustic painting focusing on color and it´s ability to change. It´s imagery and forms are inspired by warm nights and breezes in the mediterranean, South of Spain. I built up the surfaces with a mix of encaustic paint, oil and stencils patterns patterns I build up the surfaces. Scraping and cutting away the layers with an etching tool and razor blade unveiling transparencies and a fusion of color. Cutting away the surface and revealing the history of layers that have come before.
Winters Grey
47” x 47”, 2015
Oil, spray paint, charcoal and varnish on canvas.
“Winter Grey” is part of a series I started after returning from London. Being inspired by the Seasons and quality of light, I first painted Autumn in vibrant Reds, Pinks and Yellows embracing the intensity of color. “Winters Grey” is the opposite using a monochromatic palette of greys and blues. It incorporates different materials in order to achieve the tonalities of soft greys and deep blacks. It was selected and featured at the Online Gallery Urban Riche for their Black & White show..
Atlas
47” x 47”, 2017
Serigraph and spray paint on canvas.
“Atlas”, created & inspired from a graphic image created and inspired from a graffiti artist in East LA. Starting with a Serigraph series on paper, I then deconstructed the image and rebuilt it using the serigraph prints, printers ink and spray paint on canvas. Measuring 120 x 120 it was created at the Otis LA Summer Residency in 2017. I used 6 silkscreen prints on canvas to begin. Applying oil paint, Inks and collage to build up the surface. Then using a grinder to cut away the pictorial surface. Puncturing the pattern and letters of Atlas into the back of the canvas. It was through the process of adding and subtracting surface that allows light to penetrate the canvas and brings the painting to life..
